Situation

As a professional optical module thermal system B2B service provider, we collaborated with a communication equipment manufacturer to develop a QSFPDD optical module thermal solution for their OTN equipment. The client required not only that the heatsink design meet stringent thermal performance requirements but also that the heatsink be integrated and assembled with the optical module Cage for shipment. This project faced two major challenges: translating the conceptual thermal structure into a manufacturable solution, and the client's lack of optical module Cage supply chain resources.

Task

As a high-density optical communication thermal system supplier, we undertook the following tasks:

  1. Refine the client's preliminary thermal structure into a manufacturable QSFPDD heatsink structural optimization engineering solution;

  2. Address the inherent limitations of traditional vapor chamber processes in contact area, heat dissipation efficiency, and structural strength;

  3. Provide the client with a complete optical module heat dissipation and Cage integrated solution, including supplier coordination and assembly integration.

Action

  1. Cold-Forged Vapor Chamber Heatsink Customization Service

    • Evaluation of the original design revealed that using traditional vapor chamber processes would reduce the heat source contact area by 50% and effective fin area by 30% due to insufficient weld edge width, with structural strength inadequate for long-term use;

    • Innovatively adopted cold-forging technology to develop a cold-forging process vapor chamber with excellent structural integrity and thermal performance, ensuring no loss of contact area, maximized heat dissipation efficiency, and significantly enhanced structural rigidity.

  2. Supply Chain Integration and Collaborative Development

    • As a heatsink and Cage assembly supplier, we proactively connected with multiple Cage suppliers to assist the client in selection, quotation, and sample matching;

    • Conducted integration feasibility analysis to ensure full compatibility between the heatsink and Cage in mechanical and thermal characteristics, supporting assembly testing and validation.

  3. Engineering Design Verification and Delivery Support

    • Produced cold-forged vapor chamber samples and conducted thermal testing and mechanical strength validation;

    • Coordinated supply chain resources to ensure seamless OTN equipment heatsink design and manufacturing processes, supporting the client's rapid product launch.

Result

  • The cold-forged vapor chamber fully met performance requirements, preserving complete contact area and fin efficiency while significantly enhancing structural strength, successfully preventing collapse during use;

  • Assisted the client in establishing a complete Cage supply chain system and achieving systematic integration of communication equipment thermal management solutions;

  • This project demonstrated our comprehensive capabilities as a QSFPDD optical module vapor chamber heatsink ODM supplier, providing end-to-end thermal support from structural optimization and process innovation to supply chain integration.
