1.Introduction


In the confrontation of performance and portability, heat dissipation has become the most critical factor for laptops. Heat dissipation has always been a bottleneck in the core technology of laptops. Sometimes the laptop freezes strangely, which is usually caused by high system temperature. To solve this problem, people designed laptop heatsink. Good heatsink can extend the life of your laptop. It allows the heat generated by the laptop to spread faster to the outside to ensure the normal operation of the laptop. 


2. The role of heatsink


(1) Heat dissipation principle


Heat dissipation is actually a heat transfer process. It has several methods of conduction, convection and radiation. Air cooling is still the main cooling method for laptops. Most of the cooling methods are the combination of fans, heat pipes and heat sinks.


There are two main principles of heatsink:


① The heat dissipation function is realized through the principle of heat conduction. Place heatsink made of plastic or metal on the bottom of the laptop. Heatsink raises the laptop to promote air circulation and heat radiation, which can achieve heat dissipation.


② Install several cooling fans on heatsink to improve heat dissipation performance.

(2) Structure of heatsink


The fan-type heatsink is generally composed of a metal or plastic case with built-in 2 to 4 fans. Most heatsink fans use a suction design, which can minimize the impact of air disturbances and improve heat dissipation efficiency.

Before choosing a cooling base, we need to determine the hottest positions of the laptop. Then, we chose a heatsink with a fan layout closer to the heating position.


We'd better buy heatsink with independent power switch, and check if there are non-slip or fixed structures which can effectively avoid accidents.

 

(3) Performance of heatsink


In the same environment, without using heatsink, we record the main temperature parameters of the system after five minutes and one hour after power-on. Then we use heatsink and also record two temperature parameters. Comparing these four temperature values, we can roughly determine the heat dissipation performance of the heatsink.


Also need to pay attention to the noise and vibration of heatsink. The number and quality of the fans is the determining factor. Although more fans increase heat dissipation, power consumption, noise and vibration also increase. Therefore, when we purchase heatsink, we need to determine whether the noise is acceptable and whether there will be vibrations that affect the computer hard disk.

 

The key to laptop cooling is the internal CPU fan. If the air outlet is blocked by dust, the laptop will be hot or even overheated, causing automatic shutdown. So we need to clean up the dust regularly or ask a professional to help you clean it up. After cleaning, we need to make sure that no debris such as paper and debris is left in the laptop, and then close the cover and tighten the screws.
