How to Choose Heatsink for PC?

Extremely high heat generation is the fatal killer of computers. Although scientists are continuously reducing the power consumption of various hardware, so far, no computer can escape the shackles of the radiator. Although there are many excellent radiators that can solve the computer's heating problem very well, it is really not an easy task to solve the heat dissipation problem for those who have just learned about the computer. The main point of this is CPU cooling. As an important accessory product of the computer, the heat generated by the CPU is quite much. Although there are many low-power CPUs, all of them are basically giving up some performance. But most users will focus on performance when choosing a processor. In order to match the good CPU, it is very important to choose a suitable heatsink

Choose Heatsink According to the Demand

The price difference between different radiators is very large, the cheapest is only a dozen yuan, and the most expensive may reach hundreds of yuan. Considering the problem that heatsink directly affects the life of the CPU, it is worthwhile to spend a little more money when purchasing a heatsink. However, it doesn’t mean that the more expensive, the better. From the perspective of ordinary consumers' consumption, the higher the price of the radiator, its quality and performance should be better than other types of products, but this is not the case.

Generally, a heat sink can be split into two parts, a heat sink and a cooling fan. There are mainly two types including aluminum sheet and copper sheet hot plate according to the material. Because the cost of aluminum is relatively low, the product price is relatively low, and naturally more people buy it. The copper heat sink, although relatively expensive, has good thermal conductivity, so it can achieve better heat dissipation effect in combination with a cooling fan. Of course, the price is not acceptable to every user. The aluminum heat sink has lower thermal conductivity than copper. To use the same processor to achieve the same heat dissipation effect, the cooling fan must increase the power, so the noise must increase. Therefore, after weighing the heat dissipation effect and the noise level, some businesses have adopted a compromise way that is to plug copper in the contact part between aluminum radiator and processor. This can not only accelerate the heat dissipation of the processor, but also reduce the product cost. Therefore, this product attracts the most attention from users.

In addition, the heat dissipation effect is not only related to the heat sink, but also whether the heat sink can coordinate with the CPU. If a high-priced heat sink cannot effectively cooperate with the CPU in your computer, not only will it not achieve the ideal heat dissipation effect, but it may also damage the CPU. Therefore, everyone should learn more and  compare with others before buying. There are still many cheap and easy-to-use radiators on the market. Generally speaking, if you are using mainstream dual-core Pentium 4 / D or AMD single / dual-core Athlon processors, then it is strongly recommended that you buy a product with aluminum plug copper. Of course, if you are also overclocking the processor, a pure copper heat sink is your best match. If your processor is a Celeron D or Sempron, and there is no intention to overclock, an aluminum radiator can meet your needs very well, and the price is relatively cheap.

Choose the Right Heat sink

Since the heat generated by the CPU is transmitted to the heat sink and then blown by the cold air brought by the fan, the heat from the heat sink is taken away, and the amount of heat that the fan can conduct is related to the area of the heat sink. Generally, the larger the contact area between the heat sink and the air, the better the cooling effect of the fan. This has created a wrong view in the minds of consumers that a large radiator will definitely have better heat dissipation. In fact, what affects the heat dissipation efficiency is the surface area of the heat sink, not the pure volume. With enough free space in the case, the big heat sink does have a strong advantage. However, if the computer's chassis originally has less heat dissipation space, it will be difficult to install a large heat sink into the chassis if there is not enough free space. Even if it can be installed in the chassis, the large contact area will block heat dissipation. The hot air around the tablet can’t dissipated quickly, which caused the overall temperature inside the chassis to be too high, which affected the operating performance of the entire computer.
